Annual World AIDS Day Observances
About The Event
Since 1988, World AIDS Day has raised global awareness of HIV and the AIDS pandemic through community events and engagement. We began our observances in 2024 with the Hamptons Pride Names Project: remembrances, reflections, and a ceremonial reading of the names of East End community members who have lost their lives to the virus, alongside a display of Quilts from the National AIDS Memorial.
Each year, we continue to observe World AIDS Day at a different local venue, offering new opportunities to remember those lost to the AIDS pandemic, and to honor and celebrate the resilience of the East End’s LGBTQ+ community.

AIDS Memorial Quilt Workshop
Thursday, November 12, 2026 @ 6:00pm
The Church, 48 Madison Street, Sag Harbor, NY 11963.
Join Hamptons Pride Founder, Tom House, for a drop-in workshop decorating quilt squares in memoriam of those lost to the AIDS pandemic, with a focus on the life and legacy of American artist Patrick Angus. Facilitated by House, participants will be asked to paint a quilt square in the style of Angus, who was best known for his intimate portraits of men and his evocative depictions of gay life in 1980s New York City.
Following the session, squares will be sewn together into a finished quilt and shown at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in East Hampton from November 28th – December 1st, alongside their display of quilts from the National AIDS Memorial.

Each quilt acts as a living memorial to a generation lost to AIDS and functions as an important HIV prevention education tool. With hundreds of thousands of people contributing their talents to making the memorial panels, and tens of thousands of volunteers to help display it, the Quilt is considered the largest community arts project in history.
